1- Hello ChinHon, can you please tell us a bit about you?
Yes, I am a firm believer of creating values for our customers. This can be done by providing great services and products.
In recent years, I have found that there is a surge in demand for wellness products in Asia, primarily because of growing affluence and aging population. We saw an opportunity back in 2007 to satisfy this demand.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
Our focus area is to supply wellness products to our customers at a competitive price. Due to my background and network in Australia, we have been distributing quite a few products to our customers through retailers and distributors.
I feel we have the niche ability to provide some of the best products in this area and leveraging on this strength was a logical step in our business planning process.
3- What influences your work? What makes you want to wake up every morning?
Creating and retaining satisfied customers is the main guiding principle in my course of work.
I wake up every morning looking at my written long-term goals and planned tasks for the day – this action alone drives my passion and starts my “engine”. With every accomplished task, achieved goals, I feel that we are making progress towards our overall vision – that is to be the top wellness product distributor in Southeast Asia.
4- What is your primary focus in terms of self-developments at the moment?
One of the areas of self-development I am looking into now is to develop my ability to learn quickly. In this modern world where the business environment changes quickly due to disruptive technologies, one has to learn how to unlearn and relearn.
Due to day-to-day matters that need my attention, it is thus important for me to make the best use of my time. Rapid learning helps me to achieve this goal.
5- Where do you think you are making an impact?
The area of impact is definitely in the business itself, as it is my passion to ensure that all business activities go according to plan and to react accordingly to every unique situation.
Able to deal with different problems calmly and confidently is essential to good decision making.
6- Can you tell us more about “Young Earth Sanctuary”?
It is a startup company which I have been working on since 2015. We believe in being optimistic and appreciative of Mother Nature while bringing the best of it to consumers without harming the environment.
We believe in contributing back to the society and environment through education, personal involvement and economic success-sharing with our partners.
7- Where do you see it in the next 5 years?
This company will have a presence in more than 3 countries in Southeast Asia, either through the presence of our Retail Partners or Associate Companies. Only through regional expansion can we reach out to more consumers and thereby improving their lives by providing wellness products.
8- What can you tell young people who are pursuing their dreams?
Firstly, they must believe in themselves. During my start-up days, I get a lot of concerned relatives and friends telling me to give up because I was “not cut out to do business”. If I had believed in what they say (though they really were trying to give good advice), I would not be able to achieve what I have today. Hence my conclusion is that: through self-affirmation and clarity of goals, we can indeed eventually visualize our own success.
Secondly, they must inject enough emotions or desire in their persistence to achieve success. Learn from every failure gladly and celebrate every success without hesitation.
Thirdly, it is important to learn from others who had walked the path before. Even the best tennis player in the world needs a coach or mentor, so does everyone.
Fourthly, setting clear goals with actionable plans and timelines is the classic way to make the best use of their time, thereby achieving their dreams more quickly. For every 1 minute of planning, 10 minutes can be saved in execution. So that’s a pretty good area to pay attention to.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
We are most excited that our e-commerce business has grown rapidly. Due to modern technology, the market is no longer confined to a geographical location. One could be buying products from someone miles away in another country in seconds, can you imagine how exciting it can be when that happens to you in your sales?
10- The last word or final thoughts?
My advice to all, including my team, is that never to lose sight of what drives customers behavior, as they are constantly changing. Staying engaged with customers gives us the biggest clue of how to grow one’s business.
