The holiday season is in full blooms and Christmas is near. We’re all excited to get the perfect gifts! It’s a great time to get together with friends and family and enjoy the gifts you have given each other. However, the holiday seasons should also be a time to think of the less fortunate. Most people in several communities, closer to home than you may think need help throughout the year, and it’s even worse for them during the holidays. They will not be able to exchange gifts like most of us will on Christmas Day. Most of them cannot feed or clothes themselves and more importantly afford adequate shelter. It is important to remember that the holiday seasons are not just about getting the latest electronics, gadgets or making sure you catch the best deal on Black Friday, but instead it should be about giving back to our communities. Though giving back to our community should be all year round but the holiday season is a reminder that we should do more.

There is no greater feeling than being able to give back to those people in our community. Many people around this time of the year will have fallen on hard times or sick and do not have the resources to help themselves, much less give something to someone else. It is not about what kind of expensive gifts you give to someone in need, or even what you ask for yourself, but sometimes, it’s the little things that count. Food for a meal or a night at a shelter away from the cold, things like that will define the holiday spirit more so than big gifts.

It is important to remember that being thankful for certain things in our life define the holiday seasons. Don’t be thankful for the amount of clothes you have or the new iPad you just got, but instead be thankful for the fact that you have a roof over your head and food on your plate, because for many, that’s usually out of reach. And the fact that your friends and family are healthy and happy. Those are the things that we should really be thankful for, each and every day.

This season, Candles Unlimited will be donating 10% for every candle sold to a local charity to help a needy family in the area. It is the very least we can do! Those families will be able to spend their holiday season with a little extra help, and hopefully just a little bit more love and joy in their hearts, knowing that there is someone out there that is looking out for their happiness this holiday season.

True holiday spirit is about giving to those in need. Giving back is truly what the holiday spirit is all about, and we should all remember that in the coming weeks. We urge you to help someone in need in YOUR community. When you share small acts of kindness, you are giving back more than you might think. And sharing or giving back doesn’t necessarily means handing out money or maxing your credit card. Below are some of the few ways you can give back to your community this holiday season.

  • Collect cans of food and donate them to a food bank or a shelter.
  • Volunteer at a local food shelter.
  • Donate all the extra clothes or shoes out of your closets…You know, those you haven’t worn in the last year or two!
  • Collect all your children’s extra toys and bring them to a children’s hospital. Let’s brighten up a kid’s face this Christmas.
  • Bring some sheets, blankets or comforters to a shelter. They can always use new sheets.
  • Give out a gift card. If you’re not sure what to give to a family that’s struggling financially, a gift card to Target or Walmart is a safe bet.

The sky’s the limit! Help someone in need in your community and/or help us help someone in ours by purchasing a candle. A little help goes a long way. Visit the site today at and make a difference in someone’s life this holiday season. Together WE can help!!
