1- Hello Hassan, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Hassan Syed, I am a problem solver that hardly ever runs out of ideas. Of course, not all of my ideas are good but I try. I am the Founder and CEO of Bir Ventures – a new product development company. I started my career in systems programming 32 years ago.
During my early career, I experimented with every aspect of Information Technology, from designing data centers to set up disaster recovery processes. I programmed networking equipment, troubleshoot assembly line problems, and fiddled with the mainframe operating systems.
2- What kind of technology are you building now?
For the past 15 years, I have been focusing more on knowledge and collaboration at a scale that was never possible in human history. I am not talking about the muscle power, like building pyramids, I am talking about brain power, like building Wikipedia, or using CAPTCHA to digitize books.
Five years ago, I started Bir Ventures to develop new products that support innovation through collaboration and knowledge exchange.
To be honest, we are not building any new technology. We are learning how people bring their ideas to reality.
3- I don’t get it, what do you mean by bringing ideas to reality?
We all come up with ideas, all the time. Most of the time we just forget about them in few days or few weeks.
When we see people successfully launching their ideas, we wonder what these guys had that made it possible for them. There are human factors like grit, perseverance, courage, discipline, vision, etc., and there is the process of executing an idea.
My company is trying to learn that process.
4- How would this learning help people?
Now, this is the question to ask. When you come up with an idea, what do you do? You may talk to someone you know but after that, what is next?
5- So you will develop their ideas into products or something?
No, we will teach a person to fish. We have developed a virtual incubator for ideas. IdeaGist is the largest virtual incubator in the world. It offers a unique 60 step process to work on an idea from concept to launch.
6- So people need to apply and compete like other business incubators or accelerators?
No, we don’t have any formulae to find out if an idea would be successful or not, so why try to pick winners? No one has that formulae. If you are committed to working on your idea, committed to learning, and ready to work with other people, you should be able to bring any idea to reality. You may need a little bit of help in making sure that you don’t make major mistakes and we help you with that.
On IdeaGist, all ideas and all people are welcome.
7- Are you saying that everyone will be accepted into your incubator?
Yes, why would you not get an opportunity to prove yourself?
8- But what if I don’t want other people to know about my next big idea?
Exactly, this is why on IdeaGist, people can work on their ideas in stealth mode, and when ready, get their trusted team to work with them. IdeaGist also has the provision of signing a non-disclosure agreement before anyone sees your idea.
9- How can I work on my idea?
It is easy. Just go to https://global.ideagist.com and register for free to start working on your idea. You can work at your own pace and at your own place.
10- What can you tell young entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams?
Everyone has to learn as they work on their ideas. Try a few things out to get better at and don’t be afraid of failure.
