1- Hello Julien, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Sure! My name is Julien Meyer and I am a 3x startup founder. I started my entrepreneurial career at the age of 15 in New York, where I grew up, selling skateboards, reused iPods and any goods I could get my hands on. I then attended the University of Central Florida where I was lucky enough to run a startup that was acquired by a company known as CollegeStack which I then became the CEO of. After CollegeStack I founded BlurtBox a digital customer survey startup and I am now a founder turned consultant and host of the Startup Financial News podcast here in New York City.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
I focus primarily on helping other founders start, fundraise for and run their businesses. Our goal at Startup Financial News is to create a program each day that helps entrepreneurs to better run their businesses.
3- How do you describe your journey in few words?
Exciting, Terrifying, Manic Depressive, “wouldn’t trade this lifestyle for the world though”
4- Can you tell us about “Startup Financial News Podcast”?
Yes! We are a daily business news show that focuses on financial headlines as well as Silicon Valley headlines. We take the best in tech news and mix it with the latest in financial news. We are a mini CNBC targeted directly at entrepreneurs.
5- Where do you think you are making an impact?
Helping entrepreneurs run their businesses better every day. Information is power but information takes hours to gather. In one 20-30 minute episode of SFN, you can start or end your day with the latest in entrepreneurial news and thus be a better entrepreneur.
6- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working at “Startup Financial News Podcast”?
The biggest challenge was being consistent at the beginning. A daily news show is tough to do especially on a boring news day! But, by mixing in guest hosts, authors, and interviews on the show we have succeeded in creating a great show every single day!
7- Where do you see the podcast in the next 5 years?
We hope that it will only grow from here. Our dream is to partner up with a larger network to broaden our audience and also to one day make it on FM radio!
8- What can you tell young entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams?
Persistence and resilience are the two most important skills in entrepreneurship. You must keep going forward even when everyone is trying to stop you.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
The world of content creation! Podcasts, blogs, live streams, etc. are getting more attention than ever before. I would encourage all entrepreneurs and small business owners to start their own podcasts just to get connected with people in their industry!
10- The last word or final thoughts?
Never underestimate the power of the 3 F’s. Faith, family, and friends. They get you a long way in entrepreneurship!
Thx for the interview!
