1- Hello Márcia, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi! I am a Brazilian psychologist, astrologer and life coach who is passionate about empowering women to be their best and make the most of their lives. Besides having a busy career, I have 3 beautiful children in very different ages (21, 14 and 3 years old), who I love spending time with and who are the core pillar of my life. Additionally, I source quality and profitable products from other countries and bring them to the US market to further the growth of the family business. With so many things going on, I try to make sure that I do not lose sight of the care of those I love and, mostly, that I never lose sight of caring and loving myself.

2- What are your focus areas and why?
Although I have a psychotherapist background, I use a lot of the most recent techniques and coaching tools to deliver a results-oriented approach. I focus on where you want to be (future) instead of where you have been (past). Your past experiences matter to me only to the extent in which they prevent you from living a fulfilling life. My entire work with my clients is built around defining a short/mid-term goal, creating a realistic plan, defining a strategy, working on existing roadblocks, and gradually progressing towards the set objectives. Because I am a modern, entrepreneurial woman who also have had a very difficult childhood (with history of physical, sexual, verbal and psychological abuse, alcoholism, parental loss, and mental illness), I am very familiar both with the prejudices women face to grow in the corporate world, and with the barriers that past traumas create that impede them from living the life they dream (and deserve).

3- What influences your work? What makes you want to wake up every morning?
Women! We are so powerful, resilient, strong, and many of us are still so unaware of our importance and impact on the world! We are very capable, and resourceful, but many times, due to difficult life experiences and societal pressures, we forget about that, and we stray away from who we really are. So, influenced by specialists in human behaviour, such as Irvin Yalom and Mark Goulston, and using neuroscience and cognitive reframing, I work to help women tap their inner strength, get back in touch with their hearts, rediscover their power, take charge of their lives, and create the world around them that reflects their true self.

4- What is your primary focus in terms of self-development at the moment?
I have just become Board Certified in the treatment of PTSD by the American Psychotherapy Association, which is a great accomplishment that will allow me to broaden the scope of resources I can offer women on their path to empowerment. I am also working on my second certification as a Life Coach and I am in the process of obtaining my Relationship Specialist Certification by the American Psychotherapy Association. All of these skills, coupled with NLP training (neuro-linguistic programming) and hypnosis are tools that I am making available to my clients to help them excel at their lives.

5- Where do you think you are making an impact?
My entire work and life legacy are built around two ideas:
– “It doesn’t matter where you started, you still get to decide where you will end”. We don’t get to choose the hand we are given in life, but it is up to ourselves what we do with it. Life is full of opportunities, and every second we live is a chance to start a profound and impactful change in our lives. It is just a matter of getting started and knowing how to do it. Equipped with the right tools, you can write any ending to your life story, no matter how dreamy it may seem. Which leads me to the second idea that guides my life:
– “Your life is a perfect reflection of who you believe you are and what you believe you deserve”. This may sound like wishful thinking, but dreams do come true, and science can prove that. The responsible for what we call miracles is not magic: it is our beliefs. Because our world is a reflection of what we believe, if we work on your beliefs and align them with our wishes, anything is possible. Do you realize how powerful this knowledge is? That people can go about their lives never giving this idea a second thought and, hence limiting their potential so much is just unacceptable to me. That is what I want to help people learn about: the incredible untapped power we have to create and live the life we want.

6- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
In five years I hope to be delivering my core messages to larger audiences. I hope to be really busy with speaking engagements and to have at least two books on self-development published. I have a lot to say and I know that many times people don’t pursue their dreams because they don’t believe dreams can come true. They need to know that they have the power to create anything they want in their lives. So, I hope that by sharing my experience and the tools I use to help people develop personally and professionally I can encourage them to aim higher and ask for more from their lives.

7- Can you tell us more about your work as a life coach?
My work as a life coach is completely client-centered and results-oriented. In the hour we spend together every week my full attention and resources are focused on the client. My work is concerned with helping the client learn more about themselves – their own hopes and dreams – as well as their strengths and roadblocks, so that – together – we can develop a plan to get them where they want to be. The entire work is focused on empowering the person I am working with through the transference of tools and the unveiling of knowledge that will allow them to grow while working with me, and afterwards (especially afterwards!). I don’t want clients that will need me forever in their lives to help them succeed. I work to empower them to, at some point, continue their personal development independently on their own paths, maybe returning to me once or twice a year just to follow up, and make a few adjustments here and there. My work, as said initially, is one of empowerment. People are essentially good, resourceful, and full of potential, but at some point they lose track of that. My job is to bring that knowledge back to their awareness.

8- What can you tell young people who are pursuing their dreams?
There is nothing more important in life than living a life with purpose. I know it is extremely difficult to have that perspective in your early twenties, but make an effort to find out what you are passionate about, and pursue it. You are meant to work with what you love: that is what you will be able to offer the world like no one else, and that talent should not be wasted. So don’t waste your time and life pursuing money or societal acceptance. Both of them comes naturally when we are aligned with our hearts and when we are living a purposeful life. And always make sure to drive your life by three core feelings: passion, generosity, and thankfulness. Be passionate by what you do, because that is when you will be able to truly make a difference in the life of others. Be generous, give to others what your heart tells you to. Although it is true that sometimes people may take advantage of you or not value what you have to offer, all other times when people feel grateful by the difference you made in their lives will make it all worthwhile. And be grateful, because if you look carefully, you will find things in your life that you take for granted, and that you shouldn’t. If nothing else, cultivating these feelings will generate so much positive energy around you and for yourself, that the only possible result is good things coming into your life. Gratitude and generosity are the biggest generators of power in life, so make a point of not letting one day go by without contributing to the world and being thankful for what we have, no matter how big or small.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I am so excited about the projects I am currently launching in my life that it is hard to identify which of them makes me the most excited about. I guess one project that I am really thrilled about right now is the work I am developing with self-hypnosis. I am reaching incredible outcomes with it, so I am focused on compiling my results and developing a method to bring to my clients as an accelerator in the process of achieving their goals.
