Interview with Charlie Vecchio, Founder and CEO of GiftCaddies

1- Hello Charlie, can you tell us a bit about yourself:
Charlie Vecchio is the Founder/CEO of GiftCaddies. Charlie recently served as VP of Business Development and Partner at DriveSocial. Charlie was the VP of Sales for Gratafy, a competitor in the “social gifting” space. Charlie worked as a co-founder with Infinite Advertising, an innovative startup advertising company. Charlie also served as regional sales manager at LivingSocial and as VP of Digital at Mspark. Charlie is excited for GiftCaddies to lead from the front by capitalising on an under-represented market with a new, cutting-edge offering.

2- What are your focus areas and why?
GiftCaddies was established to disrupt the way people think about sending gifts. GiftCaddies will bring the happiness of giving and receiving gifts through a broader and more versatile platform and all digitally. GiftCaddies management team is established not just in this industry submarket, but in terms of management, leaderships, marketing, and sales as well. Through valuable partnerships and strategic connections, GiftCaddies is poised to become a market leader in terms of “social gifting”.

3- How does Charlie describe GiftCaddies?
What is GiftCaddies? Our slogan is Our Mission is your Gift Delivery. GiftCaddies allows you to quickly and conveniently send gifts to your friends, family, clients, coworkers, etc. through smartphones and through the website. For example, you live in Chicago and you have a friend who lives in Richmond, VA. He or she has reason to celebrate, such as a promotion, new job, birthday, engagement, etc., you can send he or she a drink or meal at their favourite restaurant, an afternoon at the spa, a round of golf or more through a simple click on your phone. The recipient is alerted that a gift has been sent to them. They can walk into that establishment and receive their gift. At GiftCaddies, we believe there is more value in an actual gift over a gift card. People love to receive gifts, but also love to send them. GiftCaddies does the work in allowing someone to send a creative and convenient gift and also brings excitement to the recipient.

4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
We are helping small business owners. It’s an awesome feeling to be able to have a product that helps small business owners generate revenue from all over the world and help them compete with the big box businesses. I’m proud to work with small business owners and proud to partner with them.

5- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
It’s not as easy people think it is. People love the idea but forget we are still a start-up and we need to gain trust from the business community but also we need to gain the trust of users who we need to download the app and use it to send gifts.

6- The business world is very changing, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
GiftCaddies will be the leading gifting platform and in all 50 states. I want to open a non-profit and help others start their own business. I would like to work in the inner cities and help those kids follow their dreams. Everyone deserves a chance and I would love to help kids become successful entrepreneurs.

7- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working on GiftCaddies?
Finding people who have the same passion. Finding people that realize this is not a well-organised business. People take a job and just expect money grow on trees and the reality is, I self-funded this. Every penny spent I had to make sure it made sense and some people on the team had a hard time with that. It was hard finding people who wanted to stick it out. I had so many friends reach out and once they got going, they realized it was hard and they were nowhere to be found. You learn a lot about your friends and family. You are always surprised by who is there for you and who is nowhere to be found.

8- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I’m excited because everyone loves GiftCaddies. In the last 2 weeks, I’ve had 4 different companies reach out to me about a possible acquisition of GiftCaddies or opportunities to invest. We have the right product. We are actively looking for funding and once that is settled, this business is about to take off. We recently partnered with a Top Chef in Atlanta and are close to opening that market. This is a viral product and once we start doing social media advertising buys we expect this business to scale very quickly. It’s exciting times at GiftCaddies.

9- What can you tell to young who want to start a new adventure?
Patience. Patience. Patience. GiftCaddies has taught me that you need to have patience. Things don’t always go the way you want but if you stay patient, it will work out. I would also say you need to surround yourself with amazing people. I have a couple people that I look up to and I’m always reaching out to them and asking them to help me through a situation. I don’t know what I would do without this support team.
