Interview with Ehren Muhammad, EMPro’s CMO & Project Manager

1- Hello Ehren, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m a passionate person. I come from a creative family and learned a lot from my Mother. She raised me and my sister to follow our dreams, so that’s what I do daily. I created EMPro because I enjoy the creative and strategic aspects of marketing and I wanted to help other entrepreneurs. I’m entrepreneur to the fullest; all of my personal passions (fitness, fashion, visual and literary arts) I find a way of creating a business out of them. You only get one life to live, make a living doing what you love and you will never go wrong.

2- What are your focus areas and why?

My areas of personal interest match my professional focus. It helps to keep work enjoyable. I love to create so graphic design, web development and promotional activities tend to be the projects I am involved for clients.

3- How do you describe your journey in few words?

Lots of hard work, trial and error and lessons learned. Always knew I wanted to have my own business when I was a kid I created comic books and sold them to my mom’s co-workers. I take every opportunity to learn something new. Going into college I wanted to study Law; but it was marketing and management courses that made me come out of my shell. I learned the value of working in teams and how to build a successful project teams. I dropped the notion of studying law altogether and before graduating, a friend and I started a business as party promoters. I learned so much, but unfortunately my partner was more into partying than planning the party so we folded. I lost my first real office job, it was sales and my heart wasn’t into it. But once again, I learned a lot and met some amazing people. Actually I went on a road trip to President Obama’s first inauguration. Being there and experiencing the united spirit of hope from such a diverse group of people, really embodied the idea of what America is all about. It was inspiring. After that I started working as a retail manager, saved as much money as possible but then was laid-off and knew that was the time to start my dream company. EMPro, Ltd was born and I met my first client at the gym. It’s all history since then.

4- Where do you think you are making an impact?

Pretty much, every business I’m involved in represents my personal brand. I love to help others make their dreams a reality, like my mom help do for me. I help entrepreneurs and small business owners accomplish their goals every day. We are making an impact by helping businesses rebuild and strengthen their communities. At EMPro, Ltd we help level the playing field for small businesses to stay competitive through effective marketing services. We even started an online community – #Truebelievers on Facebook and LinkedIn. The group is for entrepreneurs and small business owners to share information and network.

5- Can you tell us about EMPro?
EMPro is my baby, my heart and soul. I say that because that’s how entrepreneurs and small business owners feel about their ventures. We share their passion and want to see them succeed. We provide a full catalog of marketing and promotional services designed to help small businesses build profitable brands. Most business owners wear to many hats, and marketing is a 24/7/365 task. No days off because you never want to miss out on business. We are the marketing solution for small business owners. EMPro will focus 100% on our clients marketing so the client can focus on their business. We specialize in the areas of digital marketing, public relations, and promotions so clients don’t have too. EMPro works with business owners 1-on-1 to ensure we help their brands grow the way they want and is most profitable.

6- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Traveling the world, watching some clients take their companies public, taking my mom to France, writing comic books and loving life on some new adventures.

7- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working on EMPro?

The biggest was just not giving up. That’s why I call entrepreneurs “True Believers” because this takes balls to do. Funding, customers, partners, those can and go but if you believe and are passionate enough to work smart diligently, success and happiness will come.

8- What can you tell young people who are pursuing their dreams?
Learn to take criticism positively, although it won’t always be delivered in a positive manner. There can be valuable information in critiques of your work. Find the value and use it, but don’t let it determine your interest or passion. Use it for what it is, an observation and opinion nothing more.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
We are about to launch our new website which is always exciting to get visitors’ feedback. Also we are helping a new fashion brand, ButtaFly Jeans expand its online presence. I personally love fashion so this is right up ally.

10- The last word or final thoughts?
A person should never give up on their dream even if you think it is a little silly at first, even if no one else believes in you. I’ll tell you why. In 2008, I told only a few people that I wanted to start a company that helped entrepreneurs with their branding (visual, business development, etc). Those people didn’t think small business owners would need or be able to afford my services. They said that I should stick to law school. Well the interesting thing is – one person has asked me for a job and a few others have contracted EMPro, Ltd services to help them start their own businesses. My motto – keep the faith, work smart, and never give up on your dreams true believers.
