1- Hello Blake, can you please tell us a bit about you?
I’m just a guy who thinks people should be treated fairly. I’m from Fredericksburg, Texas. I’m 27 years old. I’m a serial entrepreneur, an inventor, and I am passionate about economically empowering people.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
Right now I am focused on making 25Cab successful and helping out rideshare drivers everywhere.
3- How would you describe 25Cab in few words?
25Cab is the anti-Uber. We don’t want robot drivers replacing people and we don’t want to squeeze as much money out of drivers as possible. We let passengers pay drivers directly, like you would with a taxi but our app otherwise does what Uber does and more. Drivers set their own price and can see a bell curve of prices in their area, for instance. The main thing is that if you make $1,000 a month driving with Uber you will pay them $250 per month at least. You would pay us $3.99 to $7.99, but your first 8 months are free anyway.
4- Where do you think your work is making an impact?
At the moment, I hope we are encouraging Uber to rethink their plan to replace drivers with driverless cars. If Uber fires drivers, 25Cab will be happy to help them get back in business. I can’t imagine any rideshare business model that can be cost competitive with our drivers, much less their Blade Runneresque dream.
5- Most people still can’t see the importance of the sharing economy to upgrade the way we are doing business, what do you think about that?
I think they have a point when so many of the sharing economy companies take advantage of their users. The sharing economy really doesn’t need these middlemen, like Uber. All they do is take a cut and provide an illusion of security. With modern technology, the sharing economy can and will become fully peer to peer. That’s significant.
6- What the word “ridesharing” means to you?
There is the present reality of ridesharing and the possibility. The reality is that at the moment ridesharing is a means of big companies killing taxi companies while exploiting regular people. The possibility is that ridesharing will give everyone the ability to earn money with their vehicle, free of a middleman who is essentially their boss and takes over 25% of their pay.
7- Where do you see the company in the next 5 years?
I see 25Cab taking marketshare from companies like Uber and Lyft, forcing them to treat their drivers better. More importantly, I see 25Cab stopping Uber’s plan to replace its drivers with driverless cars. If Uber fires its drivers they will hand us the entire market.
8- What can you tell young creative entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams?
You don’t need 9 out of 10 ducks in a row. You need 11 out of 10 to be successful. You will probably fail and you might fail a lot, but don’t give up. An ounce of determination is worth a pound of ideas.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I’m excited to see 25Cab crash Uber’s IPO party.
10- The last word or final thoughts?
Thank you for interviewing me. I really appreciate your interest and your time.
