1- Hello Justin, can you please tell us a bit about you?
Hello! I am excited to do this. I am an Entrepreneur and Podcast Co-host. I played hockey growing up and made it to the Ontario Hockey League. Yes, I do have most teeth.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
My main focuses are finance and entertainment. ASB Elite is a Financial Optimization firm that I started to educate people on finances through specific and unbiased content. My brother and I have a podcast together called The Socially Awkward Podcast where we get into all sorts of different topics and current events.
3- How would you describe your journey in few words?
I would say my journey has been full of rare experiences that led to new opportunities. After making it to the OHL, the year of the last NHL lockout, I was cut after like two weeks and ended up playing that year in Omaha, Nebraska. After that year, I decided to give up my dream of being a hockey player and pursue business. My parents had been in the life and health insurance industry so I thought that would be a good play. We all worked together at a big company for about a year before we had an opportunity to start our own agency, essentially contracting with the best carriers, so that is what we did. Insurance and finance have always gone hand in hand for what ever reason and I started realizing that a lot of people want to know about finances so I began focusing on that and finding new and compelling ways to talk about money, how its created, how to preserve it, and how to maximize a lifestyle of financial optimization. We started the podcast as a creative outlet for my brother and myself. A way to explore interesting topics and ideas while being somewhat of silly geese.
4- Where do you think your work is making an impact?
I’d like to be making an impact everywhere. For people who feel like they’re alone and need some friends or just want to hear new ideas, they can tune into the podcast. For those who want to learn more about business or finances, we have a firm dedicated to educating and coaching people on finances, business and insurance.
5- Do you find as an expert, that you enjoy the challenge of the industry is being complex and with the game rules are always changing?
To be honest, no. It drives me nuts that the “rules” are constantly changing. It seems like whenever they make changes, there are so many micro changes that go along with it; that it makes the change really unproductive for consumers but rather benefits people of power like the government or the banks.
6- What the word “collaboration” really means to you?
I feel really strongly that as human beings, there is something that has all of us linked together in someway. Collaboration is already built into each of us as people, I just think the more you can connect people to people, people to business and connect people to ideas, the more productive we can all be and this is such a fortunate time in existence to even have the potential to be so collaborative.
7- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I am a super curious person and really enjoy business so, in 5 years, I don’t know where I see myself overall, we may start a beef jerky company one day, who knows. I do however, see myself continuing to raise awareness and advocate for victims of child abuse and neglect by growing the number of young members with Childhelp USA, a national nonprofit.
8- What can you tell young entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams?
Don’t be too cool for anything, money is an infinite resource and don’t accept not doing the things you know you should do.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I am most excited to continue seeing lives be set free of financial slavery and seeing how much impact people have when they’re financially optimized.
10- The last word or final thoughts?
