Hello Jason McLaughlan, Can You please Tell Us a Bit About You?

My name is Jason McLaughlan and I am the owner of Western Chain Link Company. I have been a fencing professional my entire life. I always want to make sure that I am giving back to my community here in Utah. Our company is experiencing exponential growth since I have become the CEO of the company. We are using our earnings to build a better community and improve our craft.

What Are Your Areas of Focus and Why?

I was initially a fencing professional whenever I was younger. However, I have since become the CEO of the company in 2003. I began to develop my leadership skills as I began to lead our company in the right direction. Leadership and business management are my areas of focus that I put everything into each day.

How Would You Describe “Western Fence”?

Western Fence, now called Western Chain Link Company, can be best described as a company that provides value to our community. While it is important that we focus on providing the best fencing services around, the most important aspect of what we do is our interaction with people. We want to leave a positive impact on each client that we work with. This is our mission in life, and we continue to improve upon it each day.

Where Do You Think It’s Making an Impact?

I firmly believe that Western Chain Link Company is making an impact around its communities. We always make sure to participate in local events where the community gets involved. Our focus is to reach out to our community members and get to know them.

As a Business Owner, Do You Think Integrity is an Essential Part of The Game?

Absolutely. Most people will not interact with a business if they feel as if they are untrustworthy. Many businesspeople will tell you that you need to be ruthless in order to get anything done. However, this is an incredibly counter-productive mindset that can lead to failure in your business. It is the business owner’s responsibility to provide integrity and values to their customers and their employees. Being too harsh on your employees will only demoralize them. A company stands on the shoulders of its employees. You simply cannot afford to create a disconnect between you and your employees.

What Advice Would You Give to Young People Just Starting Out and Hoping to Make it In the Industry?

The most important thing that you can practice is patience. You will face many failures in your professional career. However, these failures are meant to teach you lessons and teach you how to be stronger. See them as a learning opportunity and grow from them. Make sure you are developing the habits necessary for success. Persistence, confidence, and optimism are all skills that will help an entrepreneur become successful.

Do You Find As An Expert That You Enjoy The Challenge of The Industry Being Complex With The Game Rules Always Changing?

One one of the most important things that you can ever learn as an entrepreneur is that nothing is constant. There is always going to be something that is changing in the world of business. I enjoy the challenge of our ever-changing industry. It keeps me on my toes and constantly thinking of innovative ideas to stay ahead.

If You Could Turn Back Time, What Would You Love to Change in Regard to Your Career?

I wish I could have gone back in time became the owner of Western Chain Link Company sooner [laughs]. Our company went through some financial struggles back in the day. Our previous co-owner did not do a very good job of running things. While I can’t give away too many details, I could have saved the company sooner had I been appointed earlier. However, everything happens for a reason. Our company is thriving more than ever before. I am thankful for our incredible community and staff for their support.

What Are You Excited About At The Moment?

I am incredibly excited about our community outreach program. We have been developing a system for some time now that will allow us to participate in more events around our area.

The Last Word of Final Thoughts?

I have been thinking about success recently. I feel like many business owners only consider themselves successful if they have reached their goals. Unfortunately, their goals can be unobtainable. This means that they are living through this cycle of being dissatisfied with their current state. Always be happy with what you have. It is not a race to the finish line. You are successful by simply pursuing your passions.
