Interview with Gunnar Andreassen, SEO and Online Marketing Expert

Today,  I had an opportunity to interview one of the best Online Marketing Experts, I invite you to know more about Gunnar Andreassen and to learn more about the Online Marketing field!

1- Tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I was born in 1971 in a small town in the north of Norway on the eve of the digital revolution. Maybe I have spent more time with computers than the average of my age, but I have always liked computers. Later my interest in marketing was peaked by education and working in the advertising industry.
So when the Internet erupted between 1990 and 2000 I had the two basic elements for doing online marketing: a knowledge about computers and marketing.
At the time there was no education on these subjects so you had to figure it out on your own to become successful.

2- Your last book is a SEO golden mine; can you tell our readers more about it?
It is 700 pages with all the things you need to become successful online. Some are basic knowledge but there are also some unknown things in the book that are very effective.

3- We all want our website to get found. What are the recent trends in Search Engine Optimization?
Site structure, content quality, diverse link building and adding content often.

4- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working with Some big companies to define their online marketing strategy?
Some big clients don’t understand that they actually need to change the website content to rank and convert better. This is usually because the marketing manager do not have sufficient know-how about online marketing and interaction.

5- How important is social media and online marketing to new and senior bloggers?
You have to have a Facebook page, a Twitter profile and a Google+ page as a minimum. If you do not, you are not considered worthwhile.

6- Where should a blogger or small business start when developing an online marketing strategy?
That is a really good question. I guess the best place is actually Google, just type your area of interest and you will find great online resources.

7- Which social media tools do you recommend to increase user engagement and analysis?
Automated social media management is over so you actually have to use some time doing it right. HootSuite is a great tool for analysis.

8- How do you think online marketing has changed over the last few years?
Doing SEO 10 years ago was almost too easy. Now it is hard and requires both time and resources, there is no easy fix anymore. Overall, website design has improved, and online ad prices are much better now.

9- What tips would you give to anybody who is looking to get started in Online Marketing field and what do you think are the most valuable skills required when working in online marketing?
My best advice to everybody offering online marketing services to other businesses online is to use the methods yourself in your own business. It will take a shorter time to learn the tricks of the trade and makes it easier to become a real expert.

10- A last Word or final thoughts?
Once I saw an online marketing agency offering social media marketing services and so on, so I checked their Twitter account. It had below 10 followers. You don’t want to buy social media marketing services (or anything else for that matter) from companies with numbers like that.
