Ian Filippini is a travel writer based out of Santa Barbara. Recently, he has taken his years of travel experience and extensive knowledge of Santa Barbara and has launched a series of digital travel publications where he serves as the editor-in-chief. When he’s not travelling, Filippini loves trying new cuisines and researching his next travel destination.

1. Hello Ian, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
I’d be glad to. As a travel writer, I have to spend a lot of time away from my home in Santa Barbara, California. While I remain quite passionate about traveling and appreciate the opportunity to see so many different parts of the world, I do miss the Santa Barbara area whenever I am away.

2. What are your focus areas and why?
My work often involves traveling to and writing about Mediterranean destinations, which has allowed me to spend a great deal of time in some of the world’s most beautiful locales, including Majorca, Zakynthos, Sardinia, and the French Riviera, just to name a few.

3. How do you describe “Filippini Wealth Management” in few words?
In just a few words, I’d describe Filippini Wealth Management in the following way: Independent, family-owned, and uniquely dedicated to meeting the needs of each individual client through a highly personalized and tailored approach.

4. Where do you think you are making an impact?
This came as something of a surprise to me, but many of the destinations I mentioned previously are not that well known by a fairly large percentage of American travelers. My writing has opened the eyes of quite a few travelers who were inspired to see the places I believe are among the most breathtaking in the entire world.

5. What are some things that most people don’t know about your job as a Travel Writer and Expert?
After so many long international flights, most people think that I’m unaffected by some of the more uncomfortable aspects of traveling — even jet lag. Fatigue always affects me to some degree after a long flight, and I can’t imagine that turbulence will ever seem normal in my eyes.

6. Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
If, five years from now, I am still traveling all over the world while splitting my time between the Mediterranean and Santa Barbara, I will be absolutely delighted. I recognize just how fortunate I am and will remain continually grateful for the opportunity to do something I enjoy so much.

7. What is the place an entrepreneur can travel to, for the best relaxing holiday?
Sardinia, Italy. It’s the second-biggest island in Italy and it is renowned for its beautiful coastline and unparalleled cuisine. It is a great place for an entrepreneur to travel for a relaxing holiday at any time of year.

8. What can you tell to young people who are pursuing their dreams?
Confidently pursuing one’s dreams is very much its own reward, so take some time to reflect on each of the steps required to achieve that goal and refuse to yield until it is achieved.

9. What are you most excited about at the moment?
I’m excited to spend some time reconnecting with some of my favorite Santa Barbara haunts, and I’m hoping to head out to the Channel Islands with friends and family sometime in the near future.

10. The last word or final thoughts?
There’s a thriving entrepreneurial community emerging in Santa Barbara, and the community is very serious about supporting the entrepreneurial efforts of anyone who decides to make Santa Barbara home.
