1- Hello Jean, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Jean Edouard Gustave. In the U.S, I go by Jean Gustave. I’m from Jacmel, a very artsy city from the Southeast of Haiti. I’m an Illustrator, UI/UX Designer, Web Designer, Film Maker, Art Director and Partner at Antean Studios. I’m also the co-founder of VIIA TOURS. I’m actually residing in Jacksonville, FL. I went to Florida State College at Jacksonville to study Digital Multi Media Technology and Graphic Design Production. Lastly, I’m a proud father.

2- What are your focus areas and why?
My focus areas are a bit complex because I got bored doing the same thing over and over. I enjoy Art Directing because I can bring ideas to life with a team of amazing people. At Antean Studios, we focus on Digital Advertising and Marketing which includes branding, identity, web design, social media, packaging, print, film and video, etc. Conversely, focusing on the business side of Antean Studios is also crucial. We need to generate income so we can pay our employees. After that, I, personally, like to get my hands dirty in a little bit of everything.

3- How do you describe “Antean Studios” in few words?
“We Spark Results.”
Antean Studios bring Brands and Culture together. We love good things and great designs.

4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
I’m making a lot of impact in our workplace culture. At Antean Studios we don’t have bosses, nobody has an office. We all sit on the same table and have equal respect for even our interns. On Fridays we work half day and start our weekend around 12:00 PM. We have a chill out room just in case someone wants to work more comfortably in a more undisturbed area. We try to stay away of the corporate world as much as we can. There’s no being late as long as you put your 8 hours in during the day or lend it to the following days. Our employees have reasonable sick days and personal leaves where they don’t have to explain why they are not coming to work. It’s all about productivity and creativity. Our workplace needs to respond well to that.
Other than that, we want to leave our footprint behind in the advertising or creative world. We are doing a lot of side projects now just to give Antean Studios more exposure and then we can start imposing ourselves. Definitely, making quite a bit of impact in Interactive Design and Digital Advertising and Marketing.

5- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job as an entrepreneur?
It’s not for everybody, obviously; but anybody can do it. It’s very hard to balance creativity and business. For example, I have to make sure that my team deliver great work quality while I also have to focus on how to make it compatible with the client’s musts. Most clients aren’t comfy with origination; they just need something that everybody else have already had. Taking charge of the business bills such as payroll, rent, utilities and else is not easy. Specially payroll. Then, having those same bills at home is very challenging and can be stressful sometimes.

6- The Marketing market is very changing, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
We want to be a very well-known national agency. We want to be the go-to for all the big and small brands. At the same time, we’ll probably want to stay small because we will still need more control over our destiny.

7- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working on “Antean Studios”?
I had to renovate the whole house by myself. My partner got involved from time to time but he was busy with other stuff. I know manual labor was hard but I didn’t know it was that hard.
The other challenge is to bring clients in and keep the business moving.

8- What can you tell to young people who are pursuing their dreams to have their own business?
Just make sure this is what you really want to do. It’s a complicated package. It comes with a lot of consequences and most of them are hard to suck in. The best time to start is now.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I’m very excited about the future of Antean Studios.

10- The last word or final thoughts?
Nobody ever said it was going to be easy, so the best time to do something for yourself or the world is now. Be the best. Be unique. Whether or not you choose to do something with your life, the time is still moving on. Trust yourself and get in touch with the real world. It’s a lot of fun stuff happening out there right now.
