1- Hello Joëlle, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello! I am an international art dealer and art fair director. I started successfully selling art at the age of 13, and graduated from Art Academy (Netherlands) where I won my first Entrepreneur Award broadcasted on TV at the age of 19.
My first business the Funky Art Gallery, launched in 2010, focussing on urban, street and graffiti art, quickly becoming the Google page 1 ranking for Cool Art in the UK and US. I am now in the middle of selling the gallery to a big organisation in Japan.
Since 2011 I Co-Founded the Global Art Agency along with Barcelona entrepreneur Natal Vallvé. This soon expanded from its Oxford base to become one of the fastest growing international art platforms with large events across Europe, Asia and the US. With offices based in London and Dubai winning several cultural awards including being shortlisted in the VOOM Awards by Virgin Business with our pitch to Richard Branson.
I have also worked as a Curator for the Florence Biennial, and a Curator for Playboy London. In 2015 Joëlle opened another gallery ‘InVogue Art’ And since December 2015 she has been an Art & Collectibles Expert for WorldGuide. And am aiming to publish my first self-written book next year.
I am a philanthropist, and I love doing good for the world. I traveled to Tanzania to help the orphanage of ‘Bwejuu’. And my company went over to the orphanage ‘Save Blessing Child Home’ in Kathmandu. We also raised thousands of dollars together with ‘Act Against Ebola’ for Doctors without Borders.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
As an entrepreneur you have to focus 110% on your goals, and I haven’t even started yet because I have so many visions that I am working on to achieve. This is just the beginning. I thrive on success, happiness, health, positivity and abundance. People around me encourage me to continue working hard to what I want to achieve. I am blessed to have many positive people around me, which makes it easier to keep going.
3- How do you describe Global Art Agency?
Global Art Agency is one of the fastest growing international art platforms there is. From the first day we started we made it possible for our clients to sell tens of thousands worth of dollars in original artworks. Providing a trading platform connecting artists and art collectors from around the world in locations that are out of this world – UNESCO listed buildings – connecting art with art. Setting up lively art events with fantastic atmospheres, and sociable tones. Our ambition is big, and so we have just launched another event business that will focus on even bigger events. The art world should be prepared.
4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
Our team of the Global Art Agency understand our clients. We are a friendly and young team that can easily connect with anyone from any corner of the world. Now five years further down the line we are stronger than ever, with solid experience and knowledge of what we do, and having received over 300 success stories to date helps. We have a good reputation because all of this…
5- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
I don’t think many know how much work it is, but it has been sleepless nights, conference here/there, travelling around the world with a little baby boy is not easy either. Neither anyone understands how much in advance we have to start organising an event. Several years in advance we are making the programme; we are already working on 2018/2019. And during an event we hardly sleep at all – the whole team works under pressure as we need to ensure all is under control from A-Z, if you expect 150 exhibitors from over 30 countries and 10,000 visitors attention to detail is must!
6- The Art world is very changing, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I believe I will still be doing the same, more of it, bigger and better. Possibly involved in more projects and I really enjoy advising art collectors and corporate art consulting.
7- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working on Global Art Agency?
I find it very challenging to keep my cool when relying on other people that slow you down, which frustrates me the most in business. I got to be honest I have no patience… but I see that as a positive in myself… When there is something that needs to be done, I want to have it done yesterday…! Being part of a larger organisation doesn’t always allow this to happen and I guess that has been a big challenge for both the business and myself.
8- What are you most excited about at the moment?
The future! Many new things are happening. I can see a lot of change and moving forward. I am excited to do what we have set ourselves to do… And that’s “where art is, that’s where we will be”.
9- What can you tell to young who want to start a new adventure pursuing their artistic dream?
As an artist to pursue your artistic dream you have to take to begin with taking your artworks out of your home, because no one will be able to see what you create. So exhibit, and promote them online, social media is a big thing, invest time and money into the right things… The most important thing with any dream is, that if you want something to happen, you visualise it, combine it with positive energy and will power – and that’s it – you can achieve what you want.
10- A last Word or final thoughts?
See you at the top! 🙂
