1- Hello Kywuan, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hello, I am a 19-year-old sophomore in college. I am also the CEO of Kywuan Terrell Collection, an upscale outerwear apparel company for men. I am a young entrepreneur looking to make my mark in the fashion and entertainment industry. It is my hope that this year I’ll be successful at accomplishing my mission!

2- How did you get into the fashion business?
As a young child, I was always into fashion. My mother would bring home bags and bags of designer clothes and I would stay up all night trying them on. When I was 11 years old my life took a tragic twist. My mother was sentenced to serve 12 1/2 years for bank fraud.
While visiting my mother in prison we discussed ways to raise money to pay my college tuition. We came up with the idea of starting an outerwear collection for men. On prison visits, I would come up with concepts, and my mother mother would go back to her cell and hand crochet them. We went back and forth until we created a whole line.

3- Was it easy to get your clothing line up and running?
No, it wasn’t easy at all! The first step was locating skilled hands craftsmen to make the garments. I went on a lengthy search to find the right match. It took several months, but I found some of the best hands craftsmen in the world. They make each garment with care, just like my mother originally made them for me.

4- Tell us a little about your clothing line and what makes your products unique?
Kywuan Terrell Collection is an upscale outerwear apparel collection for men. We use high-end fibers, such as Alpaca, to create trendy, fashionable garments. Our most popular product is our hooded scarves, which are unique for men. During cold seasons, men can wrap up and be warm, yet still remain stylish. The celebrities really like this piece a lot!

5- You mentioned celebrities. What celebrities are currently wearing your pieces?
We have a lot of NBA players who are rocking the KTC brand, such as Jason Terry, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and James Hardin. There are also rappers, singers and television personalities who have been photographed in our garments, such as Joe Giudice, Neyo, Jada Kiss and Nipsy Hustle. It is my hope that we grow our celebrity base and branch our products out across the world.

6- What’s the hardest part of being a young entrepreneur?
Running a business and going to school full-time isn’t easy! I had to develop serious time management skills. As a entrepreneur you have to rely on yourself. You can’t call in sick or assume someone else will pull the weight for you. That just doesn’t happen! You have to stay focused and driven, even when there is no money made. Sometimes that can be difficult.

7- What advice would you give to teens who are facing adversities, such as you have, yet wish to conquer their dreams?
My advice is to never give up and stay focused! Dreaming is powerful, but taking action is even more; powerful! I write down my goals and I don’t stop pursing them until they are accomplished. I learned success comes based on your thinking. You have to look for the opportunity that lies in every adversity. If you look hard, you will find it!

8- What are you excited about at the moment?
I am most excited that my mother s finally coming home from prison this year. It’s been close to 8 years that she’s been behind bars. Her absence really hurt my family and has made life very difficult. It is my hope that when she finally comes home I will able to provide for her, just like she once provided for me.

9- What’s next for the Kywuan Terrell Collection?
We are about to release our arm warmers. They are super cool! These signature pieces can be worn instead of a sweater or a jacket, and still keep you warm. I believe they will definitely start a new trend for men. I’m excited about that!

10- Do you have a last word or final thoughts?
Yes, thank you for taking the time to check out the Kywuan Terrell Collection, and thanks for interviewing me. It is my hope that my story will inspire others to also pursue their dreams!
