Lourdes Rea

1- Hello Lourdes, can you tell us a bit about yourself
A sixteen-year-old high school Senior. An Alumni and current Teen Founder at TeenTrep Business Academy & Incubator in Los Angeles, CA. Two of my passions are empowering youth and fitness. I have gained experience with children for the past three years through being a classroom aide (volunteer) in a child care summer program and through copious babysitting jobs and on the job training workshops. Additionally, I volunteer at Care Mission, assisting in distributing food.

2- How would you describe “Toddlertown.Co” in under few words? is a one stop shop equipping care providers and seekers with the curated content necessary to provide their children with quality early learning experiences.

3- What are your focus areas and why?
My company’s primary focus is on children ages 1 to 10 and making parents and potential caregivers aware of the large amount of childcare services that are available to them. Our secondary focus is not only in making them aware but also in giving them one major online location they can come to find and start using those nationwide services right away!

4- And where do you think “Toddlertown.Co” is making an impact?
We are making an impact with many of the parents, guardians and caregivers who subscribe to our site. We realize that they are excited to have us not only as a resource but as an ally and advocate for them and their children.
We also notice that teens come onto our site and enjoy submitting advice in our Teen Advice To Toddlers Section. It’s great! We love this because they actually seem to enjoy being given the opportunity to impart knowledge on someone younger than them. For us it’s a win-win because that was our ultimate goal in creating that segment.

5- How do you differentiate yourselves from your competitors?
We do this by not “focusing” on what our competitors are doing but staying aware of it, applying what is working for both us and them and throwing out what isn’t. We also focus on just being authentic and coming from a place of truth, passion, and understanding when delivering our services.

6- Is working with moms an easy process?
As an online provider, I would have to say thus far it has been great. I mean we always have those members who stand out to us more than others, but those are the ones that make the job interesting and worth doing!

7- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
It’s funny you ask because one of the things we kept noticing is parents and caregivers would sign up for the service then a week or two later we would get a comment from that person stating that they were surprised that the company was founded and run by a teenager who knows what she’s doing. The support they have given us is truly humbling.

8- And what were some of the biggest challenges you encountered personally?
Honestly, one of my biggest challenges has been in learning to balance my personal life and goals with that of my business but with the help of my mentors and advisors, for the most part, I’m getting better at it every day.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I am most excited about the thought of attending college soon as not just a high school graduate but as a current business owner.
