Mark Coppens & Jamie Murdick

1- Hello Mark and Jamie, can you tell us a bit about yourself.

Happily residing on Bird Key in sunny Sarasota, we spend our time growing our real estate brand, getting our clients the best price possible, and planning our Spring 2017 nuptials at Sarasota’s own Ca d’Zan Mansion at the Ringling Museum.

2-How would you describe “The SRQ Duo” in a few words?
We’re a team you can count on. From initial contact to closing, we’ll be by your side 100%. We’re marketing and sales professionals at heart so we come to you in good spirits, ready to listen to your needs and wants, and never shy away from getting creative to discover or close a deal. I’m your advocate when it comes to finding you the best possible residence while Mark specializes in getting it for the best possible price. Between us, we’ve owned real estate all over the nation so we understand and appreciate the emotions involved with selling and buying homes. In us, you have a team you can trust and depend on. It’s The Duo, and you.

3- What are your focus areas and why?
Currently, we work with sellers and buyers. We like the daily diversity this affords us. From hosting an open house to previewing a few properties for a buyer, our focus is to be the most responsive, knowledgeable and diversified agents possible. We strive to be the team you buy your home with, and when you’re ready to move on, the team you choose to list your home with.

4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
We are making the biggest impact with high-end Sarasota real estate. We live on Bird Key, so we specialize in coastal properties. We know first hand the lifestyle people desire and strive to locate the right home for the right price. If you’re selling a coastal home, we know just how to market it because we live here too!

5- Jamie, what are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
It’s a lot of work. You need to be available 24hrs a day and be extremely responsive. At the end of the day, we want to treat our clients like we would want to be treated ourselves. Buying or selling a home shouldn’t have to be stressful. Let us take on that stress while you reap the rewards.

6- The Real Estate world is very changing, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Actually, we see ourselves as a trio! Right now, our business is our baby – it’s growing quickly, it requires attention, love, and care, and simply talking about it brings us joy – but we have family plans too. In five years time, we intend on having a successful, thriving business and a happy, healthy baby. We’re dedicated to pursuing the American dream.

7- Mark, what were some of the biggest challenges you encountered as an agent?
Negotiating deals for high-end properties can be very stressful. Especially when international buyers are involved. Laws are different. There may be time barriers and language difficulties.

8- What are you most excited about at the moment?
Quite honestly, there’s so much to be excited about right now! We’re negotiating a few deals this week so Mark is really in his element. He’s calm, calculated, and committed – exactly the type of guy you want on your side. I feel glad to have him on my team! We’re also nearing a pretty special closing. By this time next month, one of our clients and his wife will be moving into their first joint home. Prior to being the owner of a local popular pizza restaurant, he spent time serving our nation as a defense contractor in Iraq. Upon getting to know him better and working together to find the right Sarasota home for he and his wife, we quickly realized that an updated, spacious kitchen was more than just a wish list item; he deserved it. We’re really proud to say that we found them a gorgeous home, centrally located between all of his pizza restaurants, complete with an on-trend, gourmet kitchen, and for $30K below asking price – that’s truly something to be excited about!

9- What can you tell to young entrepreneurs that are about to start in the real estate field?
Young or old, it doesn’t matter, but if you’re aspiring to be an entrepreneur in the real estate industry, get ready to work! Your success literally depends on how hard you’re willing to work. Work to generate leads. Work to influence seller’s to list with you. Work to earn trust amongst clients and peers. Work to distinguish your brand. Did you work on a brand? Do that. You’re nothing if people don’t know you. Work days. Work nights. Answer the phone, always – even if you have to jump out of the shower to catch it in time. When you speak on the phone, especially to a person you haven’t met yet, smile. Don’t expect deals to be knocking your door down, but do be driven enough to make that dream a reality.
