Interview with Mark Trowbridge, Entrepreneur & Tizyo’s Founder

1- Hello Mark, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, I am a bit of a seasoned entrepreneur having been running and operating businesses since the age of 17 and across many industries. Like many entrepreneurs I have had some huge nose dives but also some great successes and I can honestly say it has been an incredible journey, which has included meeting Princess Diana, speaking at Government debates, working with The Prince’s Trust, launching magazines, printing newspapers, developing mortgage and insurance schemes, building show homes at Europe’s largest consumer exhibition, and supplying telecommunications to Government, Military and Corporate’s in war torn arenas, but the best is yet to come!

2- What are your focus areas and why?
I love IT and Communications – I was born in to an era when we didn’t have computers, music players, mobile phones or any real gadgetry. I remember being faced with a choice of buying another memory typewriter or a new fangled computer for my first business. Both were over £1,500 if I remember correctly and both could do pretty much the same thing, but the computer would store my templates on disks which I could interchange – I went with the computer and that started my love for technology.3- How do you describe “Tizyo” in few words?

Think of the profiles you have in your life; work, social, dating, selling on-line – Tizyo gives you the ability to communicate with others using a selected profile, whilst always keeping your personal mobile number private.

4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
Wow, in so many areas. For the first time you can ditch the second mobile phone you carry around, you can safely give out a dating number, you can make calls on behalf of your business wherever you are, you can put your home phone number on your mobile and have family and friends call you whenever, the list goes on its very exciting, but most importantly it is saving people money, making them more efficient and extending their communication possibilities.

5- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job as an entrepreneur?
Being an entrepreneur is not a job it is a way of life, in fact I would go so far as to say it is an addiction. It is a willingness to commit everything you have to something you believe in.

6- The market is very changing, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
We have huge plans for Tizyo and our company RIPTec Ltd. We are heavily involved in communications and all the latest technologies and I look forward to us being a ‘big player’ in the sector. I will have stepped aside to let the ‘suits’ run the business, but will continue to find new technologies’ and ways of doing things, I will still be having fun!

7- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while working on “Tizyo”?
Several times I was told ‘it can’t be done’, each time I knew it could and was spurred on to find the solution. Outside of that marketing is not my forte and getting our message out has been and continues to be the biggest challenge. We all know you can have the best product in the world but unless people know about it, it is useless, so every penny outside of development goes back into marketing.

8- What can you tell to young entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams to have their own business?
Stop dreaming; if you believe then just make it happen. There is no better lesson than experience.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
So many things. We are launching a new UI very soon, and are in the process of building the next product which will have a lot of embedded Unified Communications and be interacting with Artificial Intelligence, so that is pretty exciting, but probably the most exciting are the partnership deals we are working on – we are working with some great people on joint ventures and distribution and that is exciting.

10- The last word or final thoughts?
My mantra throughout life has been, ‘never give up’. Whilst you should always listen to advice, it is your life, you are the only one that can live it, live yours not someone else’s.
