1-Hello Candy, can you please tell us a bit about you?
Well, my background is in fashion footwear design, but after adopting a vegan diet, I rebranded my label to follow my beliefs. It was a bit of an awakening too; I had an inner knowing that I had to do something that matters. So I restructured my label to be a social label – we raise funds and awareness for several animal welfare and conservation charities, and we employ artisans in developing countries. I’m also a Plant-based Nutritionist and a Master Herbalist, and a soon-to-be-published author.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
Wellness, animal welfare, conservation and humanitarianism are important to me, so these are my areas of focus. To me, it’s essential to use our strengths to not only help others, but to cause the least amount of harm as possible, and to work towards conserving the planet.
3-How do you describe your journey in a few words?
Worth every lesson.
4-Where do you think your work is making an impact?
Well, hopefully in a few areas. Raising awareness about animal welfare, conservation and humanitarian causes; also educating others about plant-based nutrition as well. If people start eating a vegan diet, it won’t last long if it isn’t done correctly. It’s important to skip the mock-foods and stick with wholefoods. I make sure to give free advice to anyone who asks, so hopefully, I’m making an impact there too.
5- How did you build up a creative spirit, do you believe you were born with it, or you developed it?
A bit of both. All kids are creative, but most tend to lose it as they grow up. I’ve always loved to draw and write, so designing and writing came naturally.
6- Tell us about your upcoming book?
There is a huge lack of information, from a nutritional point, about plant-based pregnancies. So I launched a website www.plantfedmama.com as a ‘hub’ for vegan and plant-based women and mothers. And I wrote the book, ‘Plantfed Mama: A Holistic Guide to a Vegan Pregnancy,’ which delves deep into the nutritional and holistic side. I love to make healthy plant-based meals, so I share a lot of my practical yet nutrient-dense recipes as well.
7- Do you think your mindset has anything to do with success?
Definitely. I am someone who can’t do anything in halves. When I commit to anything, I do it properly and to the best of my ability. I am an optimistic person, and when things don’t go as planned, I don’t let it beat me – I use it as motivation and as a learning curve.
8- If you could turn the time, what would you love to change?
Personally -nothing. Every step and every lesson is why I’m here today.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
The release of my book, which is in early 2019. And KSKYE the Label’s ‘Be Kind’ series – this collection donates 100% of the profits to 4 of my favourite animal welfare and conservation charities: International Anti-Poaching Foundation, Sea Shepherd, Rainforest Rescue and WIRES Wildlife Rescue.
10- The last word or final thoughts?
If you don’t love it, change it. And as always, be kind.
