1- Hello Pedram, can you please tell us a bit about you?
My name is Pedram Zohrevand and I am the President of CES4. I have been working in the engineering field for many years now. Engineering is my absolute passion in life. I love the idea of dismantling something and then putting it back together again. I started my career as an assistant engineer 15 years ago, and there has not been a day that I did not try to improve and be better ever since. I continued my education all the way up to get my doctorate degree in engineering while working as professional designing buildings and structures. I started my own engineering company, CES4, 5 years ago which has allowed me to improve immensely. I love the prospect of a challenge. Thankfully, every day at CES4 presents unique challenges that fit with my personality.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
While engineering is considered my career, there are other areas of focus within that career I put my mind towards. Leadership is one of the most important things to me in life. A good leader can allow his workers to do great things. I fully believe that I have enabled my peers to become better versions of themselves by challenging them to do great work each day. However, I also excel in R&D. Finding new ways to optimize our work is crucial in the world of engineering. You must always be open to learning whenever you are an engineer.
3- How would you describe “CES4” in a few words?
Creative Engineering, Smart Solutions, and Sustainable Systems. CES4is an engineering firm that provides government and private clients with engineering consultancy services. We are an exemplary company that strives to do better each day.
4- What the word “Consulting” means to you?
Consulting means more than just telling someone how to do something and when to do it. They are seeking your advice because they do not know how to perform the task that they need. This means that they are putting their full faith and trust in your services. Consulting is an important part of our job. This means that we must go above and beyond anytime a client needs our assistance. Fortunately, CES4 works hard each day to exceed our clients’ expectations. In a nutshell, consulting means trust. The most important thing that a company can do is maintain that trust at all times.
5- What sparked your interest in the consulting field? and Why?
I have always wanted to help people in the engineering field by providing them smart solutions and creative ideas Throughout my career, I have seen many building projects that saved a lot of money and time by a consulting engineering firm reviewing all possible systems and materials and providing the most efficient design solution to the clients. Consulting appealed to me the most because I was able to directly work with a client and make a significant impact by providing him or her with an efficient and optimized design. I was supplying a skill that they could not perform on their own. This was an incredible amount of validation that made me incredibly happy.
6- What advice would you give to young people just starting out and hoping to make it?
Times are different now than they were twenty years ago. One of the biggest challenges that young professionals face these days is the ever-increasing cost of living. College tuition has skyrocketed to insane levels. Getting an education has never been more of a struggle for young people. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel that can be seen if you look hard enough.
Young people need to understand that they must adapt to the times, be patient, and persistent. They must not waver whenever things get difficult. The times will most certainly weed out the weakest links. Unfortunately, we do not have much space for individuals that do not pull their weight in today’s professional world. Spend time to hone your skills and mind. You will thank yourself for this in the long run.
7- Do you find as an expert, that you enjoy the challenge of the industry being complex with the game rules that are always changing?
I love a challenge [laughs]. I think this is why I excel so well in the engineering field. What was once a standard will change whenever someone else finds a better way to do something. It keeps you on your toes and constantly challenges yourself to improve your skills.
8- If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be? And what would you change?
I would take time to nurture more friendships. I spent a lot of time alone working on my skills. Unfortunately, I would turn down a lot of social events that I could have gone to. I would tell myself to slow down and enjoy the moment more. Slow and steady always wins the race.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
Diversity in the workplace. There are more bright minds coming into the engineering field from around the world. They bring such a unique spin on things from different perspectives.
10- The last word or final thoughts?
Work hard and make sure to play just as hard too!
