1- Hello Tommy, can you tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Tommy Stern, just call me the “ideas guy” who is looking to make the world a better place.” I designed and built Reflux Guard© out Mattress Wedge out of a personal need to desperately end my long suffering from Acid Reflux. I created, designed and manufactured the first Reflux Guard for myself, and it profoundly impacted my life. For the first time in a very long time, I had relief of my severe acid reflux and finally was able to get a restful night’s sleep. It was clear I wasn’t alone in my suffering. For these reasons, I was compelled to manufacture and share my invention with the world.

2- How would you describe “Reflux Guard” in under few words?
It’s a simple way to comply with a doctor’s order when told to lift the head of the bed. Reflux Guard is an under mattress wedge that goes on the bed platform.

3- What are your focus areas and why?
On Acid Reflux, because I suffered and at first, didn’t listen to my doctor because it was too difficult to lift the head of the bed. Once I made the first Reflux Guard for myself it was a game changer and gave me back a quality of life.

4- Where “Reflux Guard” is making an impact?
In the area of Acid Reflux but it helps with other drainage issues like helping with sinus.

6- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
On the days that I get thank you letters such as Mrs. Goldberg and calls on how Reflux Guard has helped I’m on cloud 9, knowing that we have changed another life for the better.

7- What tips would you give to anybody who is looking to get started a business in the same field as you?
Be prepared to work hard, smart, and realize that every issue a customer brings to your attention they are doing you a favor, whether you or they know it. If you take it the right way it becomes the source of making your product or service better.

8- And what were some of the biggest challenges you encountered personally?
Tearing my esophagus (Mallory-Weiss tear), almost dying from it which led me to inventing a retractable syringe. Having Acid Reflux and Barrett Esophagus led me to inventing Reflux Guard©. In both cases I made peoples’ lives better.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
Waiting for my next challenge so I could come up with a solution to help more people.
