Wahab is one of the young Entrepreneurs that we should all follow his steps and be proud to know him, starting HKUS from nothing, to an ONE million dollar company is definitely a huge achievement, let’s know more about this young Entrepreneur in our interview with him.

1- Hello Wahab, can you tell us a bit about yourself
I am the founder and Director of HKUS Ltd. Born and raised in Pakistan, I moved to Hong Kong when I was 19 years old, for my bachelors in Engineering. I finished my engineering degree from the University of Hong Kong, but I was always interested in establishing my own company, something that I can run and grow as per my own vision and objectives.

2- How would you describe “HKUS” in under few words?
HKUS Ltd. is a trading company with strong roots in China. Originally it was meant to trade between Hong Kong and USA and hence the name HKUS, but now we have customers from various countries. We also help in company registration, visas, office setup, participation in expos etc.

3- Building a one million dollar revenue company from nothing in less than a year isn’t an easy task, what can you share about making a huge achievement like this?
It’s all about being passionate and being honest. Our clients trust us and refer us to their friends and partners. We don’t just think about if we are making money, we think about if our clients are making money. We don’t believe in formalities, are available 24/7 for our clients and maintain close connections with our suppliers.

4- What are your focus areas and why?
Quality and pricing. This again is because we care for our clients. Nothing but best is acceptable.

5- How do you differentiate yourselves from your competitors?
We care for relations more than money. If a client is making a wrong decision, we warn him instead of caring about earning our commission as quick as possible. We want our clients to earn, to grow and to succeed and believe that only then we can succeed too.

6- What are some things that most people don’t know about your job?
We miss orders to avoid risk. If we have a lower price from a factory but we don’t trust them or their quality, we would go with someone more trust worthy even if the price is slightly higher and we have to reduce our margins. In today’s world of Alibaba and other such sites, people sometimes don’t realize the importance of this but our customers understand the importance of reliability and that is why they prefer us over these platforms.

7- What tips would you give to anybody who is looking to get started a business in the Import/Export market?
Don’t be greedy. Aim at increasing your market share rather than earning big percentage over your investment. Go for reliable suppliers, not just the cheapest product.

8- And what were some of the biggest challenges you encountered personally?
For any trading company, you may do everything right but even then not get the order you worked so hard to get. This is always a challenge. One has to be very optimistic to succeed in this business. There is room for growth but also big competition.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I am partnering with some of my customers who are big in retail sector in the USA and helping them come online. I plan to outsource all operations to Asia. Technology has made this possible. I am very excited about it and looking forward to it.

10- A last Word or final thoughts?
Work hard but always get time for yourself, for your family and friends. Focus on what you are good at, outsource the rest to others.
Thank you for inviting me for the interview.
