1- Hello Zakaria, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Sure, I am an ordinary person and I live my life with passion, I raise my expectations and keep pushing my limits. My passion is with New Technologies, Business and Entrepreneurship and all kind of extreme things that can paralyze people and force them to live their fears and never achieve their dreams.
I start my first project before the age of 15 and I decided to be productive instead of becoming another copy since I always believe that we only have 3 type of people: those who make things happen, those who watch things happen and those who don’t know what happened.
I finish by starting 3 startups before even getting my degree officially then went for a Ph.D. degree in Business Intelligence just for fun and I am so proud to be a part of the Columbia University family where I found myself with all these great minds who are hungry and unstoppable.
My purpose in life is to change the world and make it a better place by helping people and show them that failure is a decision and not a choice and one of my actions is my new book to help Entrepreneurs go beyond the traditional business and It’s also a book for people who dream but never raise their expectations or take actions.
2- What are your focus areas and why?
My focus areas are Supply Chain and high technologies but I combine these with business intelligence and the lean Entrepreneurship to create something great.
I never go for what is easy or highly demanded but for what I love the most and can help me change the whole world, and this is what I love to do and what I live for. I learnt about new technologies earlier in my life so I helped that passion grow inside me to become obsessed by all the new technologies and use them to make life better, so I start coding and developing but later I discovered my love for business and I didn’t care about the available jobs or if it’s easy or not but I went for them and started acting on my ideas and when I start my first course in Logistics I felt in love once again and added this buddy to the family, so I combine all of these fields to create something new, great and beautiful and the future of almost all the industries depends on it.
3- You launched 3 successful companies, how do you describe your journey?
My journey wasn’t easy and did I struggled? yes, I did! Did I fail? Oh, yeah but did I enjoy it? I think you already know the answer, those were my fun days contains a lot of pain, failure, tears and too much fun, jokes.
I couldn’t believe in failure when I were kid and I screamed when people told me you can’t but wasn’t always for my own good and my mother helped me help myself by believing in myself while there is nothing else to believe in and raise my expectation and separate who I am from what I do, if something goes wrong.
That was my start to push myself and wait for people over 10 hours in the front door of the house to ask them for an appointment and convince that client who thinks that it’s impossible to put his business in hands of couple students, but when you believe in yourself you fall down you cry a little bit then you move on.
I never had such as an experience and I am willing to live it once again with all the bad and good moments since I was living my business life with passion and fully.
4- Where do you think you are making an impact?
I changed the industry by introducing new tools based on the new technologies to manage and improve the usual and exhausted operations by automating them and control them by one of the amazing technologies ever.
The other side is related to people since I encouraged a lot of people starting their own businesses from scratch by showing them the huge opportunity out there when they start acting on their ideas, I’m always open to help and motivate a friend and very open to sharing my story with all kind of people to help them change themselves then change the world.
5- Can you tell us about your book named “The extreme Startup Guidebook”?
The Extreme Startup Guidebook was a lovely idea that I’m proud of at the request of 4 or 5 friends to start writing something for the world. Definitely, a book for entrepreneurs to boost their businesses and adopt new tools and strategies, and the book covers all the best practices to go from good to great. The book also covers the before launching phase which is important to know for people who are willing to change their lives since they real battleground is in their minds.
The title was so easy and I didn’t spend too much time thinking about it, I am a Skydiver and a BASE jumper so I am practicing ones of the extreme sports besides, my book idea was about going beyond the usual and pushing the limits.
I spent 6 months of hard work and driven by the passion for finishing it on time and I did it because of the support of my little family and my wife-to-be who believe in me all my way to success.
It’s a must read book for people who already or about to make a decision to change their lives.
6- What were some of the biggest challenges you encountered while writing the book?
Well, I’m not a writer and usually I left everything that has a relation with writing after finishing all my tasks or delegate it to someone else to get it done with quality and in a timely manner, so literally best than I can do! But, I found my target in this since it’s always about challenging myself.
And I had no experience or knowledge about the methodology or the best practices to start writing a successful book, so I start documenting myself and spent an important portion of time on this and the design was the biggest challenge and I was so serious about it since I preferred a blank cover over a bad or boring design.
Also, gathering all these ideas and best practices and put them in a timely manner was so challenging.
7- Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I see myself a game changer, who changed the whole industry and people’s mind by breaking the limits for them once so they can break it twice and so on. I will be a doctor so I will involve myself in research and of course founding a family with my beautiful wife and a baby girl.
8- What can you tell young people who are pursuing their dreams?
Don’t give up and keep fighting for your dreams and bear in mind that life is about how much you can get hit and keep going forward and there is no formula for success but hard work and beliefs make the exception. So keep moving forward and you have nothing to lose so don’t wait until you get a family and make it hard for you.
9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
I am so excited to launch my book the next few days and start seeing the feedback from my family, friends and everyone since It’s a new experience so I’m so excited to see the result of 6 months of hard work.
10- The last word or final thoughts?
When I’m about to give up I can’t stop myself from picturing myself on the deathbed and all my ideas, qualities, dreams are looking to me with angry eyes and telling me that I was the only person who could give them life and now they should die with me, It’s sad but truth.
And my WHY is the only thing who keeps pushing me when I can’t push myself and my WHY is to change the world, so what is yours?
