1- Hello Dr. Yatin, can you please tell us a bit about you?
I am a pulmonary and sleep physician, who grew up in a remote village in India. For the last twenty-five years, I have been practicing medicine in a small town in Northern Indiana in the USA.

2- What are your focus areas and why?
On a professional level, sleep medicine has been my passion. With God’s grace, I find myself uniquely endowed to help people sleep better so that they can live a long, alert, energetic, and a happy life.

3-How do you describe your journey as Sleep Physician in few words?
During my fellowship at Marshall University in West Virginia, even after a long day of work in the Intensive Care Unit, I will find myself drifting to the sleep center to observe the brain waves of the patients being studied. I learned quickly that the only way one can get the most from this life is by sleeping soundly for seven hours every night.

4- Where do you think your work is making an impact?
People who were dosing off in meetings, or driving, now can be alert all-day every day! Deep sleep improves their perception, communication, problem-solving, big picture skills, and leadership. Their personal and family life gets transformed too.

5- Sleep Apnea and Sleep Deprivation are some of the common problems today entrepreneurs suffer from, why and what do you suggest to overcome them?
Sleep apnea is the only disease in the world that impairs a person’s physical, intellectual, emotional health and at the same time leads to a deterioration also in the marital, sexual, family and professional life. The treatment of sleep apnea with continuous positive airway pressure reverses all in just one night. If you snore, please get tested and treated for this fatal disease.

Sleep deprivation, both qualitative and quantitative, plagues most of the entrepreneurs. Their passion robs them of their deep sleep. We need seven of hours of sound sleep every night and we don’t get it. Every day, we have “miles to go before we sleep.” But, we need to take a page out of Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s lives and discipline ourselves to get seven hours of sound sleep so that we can be the best version of ourselves; one who thinks creatively solves problems pleasantly, communicates clearly, and leads effectively.

6- What the word “sleep” means to you?
Life!
Mandukya Upnishad says the deep sleep – Prajna – is responsible for life. On a practical level, sleep is a rejuvenating phase of our existence characterized by behavioral quiescence and blunted awareness of the external environment.

7- Some people sleep for 8 hours other only for 3 or 4 hours, what do you think the right amount of sleep an active entrepreneur should have?
According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, seven hours of sound sleep is necessary for optimal health and performance. Some people may need half an hour more, others half an hour less, but very few (less than a percent) people need less than 6 hours of sleep.

8- What can you tell young entrepreneurs for a good health in general?
For sustainable executive excellence, get seven hours of sound sleep. Take a powernap of fifteen minutes every afternoon. Avoid sitting, sugar, and smoking. Stand or walk at work all-day even in the meetings. Get twenty to thirty minutes of exercise every day. Use a stationary bike at work or at home. Do a few yoga postures whenever time allows.

9- What are you most excited about at the moment?
God continues to give more than what I deserve. I am blessed with wonderful people at home and at work! I am excited that I am part of a team that can help people live a long life full of energy, enthusiasm, vigor, and vitality.

10- The last word or final thoughts?
Sleep. Serve. Love. Repeat.
